Softball falls 5-1 at John Carroll

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS — Junior Rachel Miller hit a home run as the Otterbein softball team fell 5-1 at John Carroll in an Ohio Athletic Conference game on Monday. The second game of the doubleheader was canceled due to rain.

  • Miller had a home run, one RBI and one run.
  • Seniors Chloe Clark and Isa Lewis had one hit each.
  • Sophomore Maggie McVicker pitched the first three innings, and junior Kiley King pitched the final 2.2 frames. They each recorded one strikeout.
Game Highlights
  • After a scoreless first two innings, JCU scored three runs in the bottom of the third, which was highlighted by an RBI triple and RBI single.
  • The Blue Streaks added two more runs in the fourth for a 5-0 lead.
  • The Cardinals recorded their first hit of the game in the top of the fifth courtesy of a leadoff home run from Miller.
  • In the top of the seventh, Clark hit a two-out single to put runners on first and second. Lewis followed with a single to load the bases, but the JCU pitcher got out of the jam by inducing a game-ending popout.
  • JCU out-hit Otterbein by a 7-3 margin. Both teams were error-free.
Notables 
  • Graduate student Caroline Heller has 136 hits, 34 doubles and 78 RBIs in her Otterbein career. She is tied for fifth all-time in doubles.
  • Lewis has 88 hits, 47 RBIs and 29 steals in her Otterbein career.
  • Named the OAC Rookie of the Year in 2024, sophomore Kennedi Endsley has 65 hits and 26 steals in her Otterbein career.
  • Miller's home run was her third of the season and the fourth of her career.
  • Entering Monday, McVicker was tied for second in the OAC in RBIs (23). Heller was tied for eighth in RBIs (17) and tied for ninth in doubles (7), and Endsley was tied for fifth in steals (10). In the circle, freshman Evie Lehman ranked ninth in strikeouts (29).
  • Head coach Bruce Anderson is in his fourth year at Otterbein and has an all-time record of 63-61-1 at the helm of the Cardinals.
