Softball splits doubleheader with Marietta

WESTERVILLE — The Otterbein softball team split a doubleheader with Ohio Athletic Conference foe Marietta on Wednesday, winning the first game 9-1 in five innings before falling 7-5 in the second game.

  • Records: Otterbein (11-10 overall, 2-3 OAC), Marietta (13-5 overall, 1-3 OAC)

Otterbein Stat Leaders - Game 1
  • Junior Rachel Miller led the offense with three hits, including a double, to go with four RBIs and two runs.
  • Senior Isa Lewis tallied two hits and two RBIs.
  • Junior Emma Calkins tallied two hits, one RBI and one run.
  • Sophomore Maggie McVicker added two hits, including a double, and one run.
  • Graduate student Caroline Heller recorded one hit, one RBI and one run.
  • Sophomore Kennedi Endsley and senior Chloe Clark each posted one hit and one run. Endsley added two steals.
  • Freshman Evie Lehman pitched all five innings and earned the win to improve to 3-4 on the season. She recorded four strikeouts.
Game 1 Highlights - Otterbein 9, Marietta 1
  • Trailing 1-0, Otterbein scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI single from Calkins and 2-RBI double from Miller.
  • The Cardinals added two more runs in the third inning on RBI singles from Miller and Lewis.
  • Otterbein made it a 6-1 lead on an RBI single from Heller in the fourth inning.
  • The Cardinals ended the game via the mercy rule in the bottom of the fifth courtesy of RBI singles from Miller, Lewis and Wilkins.
  • Otterbein out-hit Marietta by a 13-3 margin. Otterbein committed two errors to Marietta's one.

  • Lewis finished with three hits and one run.
  • Calkins tallied two hits and two RBIs.
  • Endsley added two hits, including a double, to go with one RBI and one run.
Game 2 Highlights - Marietta 7, Otterbein 5
  • Otterbein led 2-0 through three innings thanks to a two-run first frame highlighted by a 2-RBI double from Calkins.
  • Marietta plated a run in the top of the fourth and added four more in the fifth for a 5-2 lead.
  • The Cardinals scored a run in the sixth on an RBI double from Endsley to cut the lead to 5-3, but Marietta added two runs in the top of the seventh for a 7-3 edge.
  • In the bottom of the seventh, Otterbein loaded the bases via an error and two two-out singles. The next two batters drew RBI walks, making the score 7-5, but the Cardinals were unable to get any closer.
  • Both teams tallied 11 hits in the game. Otterbein committed no errors to Marietta's one.
Notables 
  • Heller has 138 hits, 34 doubles and 79 RBIs in her Otterbein career. She is tied for fifth all-time in doubles.
  • Lewis has 93 hits, 49 RBIs and 29 steals in her Otterbein career.
  • Named the OAC Rookie of the Year in 2024, Endsley has 68 hits and 28 steals in her Otterbein career.
  • Entering Wednesday, McVicker was tied for second in the OAC in RBIs (23). Heller was tied for eighth in RBIs (17) and tied for ninth in doubles (7), and Endsley was tied for fifth in steals (10). In the circle, Lehman ranked ninth in strikeouts (29).
  • Head coach Bruce Anderson is in his fourth year at Otterbein and has an all-time record of 64-62-1 at the helm of the Cardinals.
  • Marietta is 19-15 against Otterbein dating back to 2009.
