Women's soccer shows fight on road at Hanover

Box Score HANOVER, Ind. – The Otterbein University women's soccer team battled through a physical road test Wednesday evening at Hanover, ultimately falling 3-1 in non-conference action.

The first half saw chances both ways with each side generating six shots across an evenly matched 45 minutes. Senior goalkeeper Ella Schwertfager came up with three saves for the Cardinals, including a key stop in the 22nd minute off a Hanover free kick just outside the box.

Hanover broke through early in the second half to open the scoring. The hosts doubled their advantage in the 62nd minute following an own goal, and just two minutes later, Hanover extended its lead 3-0.

Otterbein answered quickly less than a minute later. Off a cross sent in from the left side, freshman Elaina Seif redirected the ball back toward junior Summer Patsko. Patsko finished the chance in the 65th minute to put the Cardinals on the board. Neither side would add to the scoring the rest of the way.

The final box score showed Hanover with a 13-10 edge in total shots. Schwertfager tallied five saves for the Cardinals, while Hanover's goalkeeper finished with three.

Otterbein will return home for the first time this season on Tuesday, Sept. 16, hosting Oberlin in Memorial Stadium.
