Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Cardinals extend unbeaten streak to four with win over Trine

WESTERVILLE – Extending its unbeaten streak to four games, the Otterbein University men's soccer team knocked off Trine University, 2-1. Lincoln Wallace and Drew Boettcher provided the Cardinal goals, improving to 3-1-3 overall.

Otterbein outshot the Thunder 5-0 in the first half, but could not find the back of the net. With a lock down defense by the Cardinals, the teams went into halftime knotted at 0-0.

Wallace scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season to give the hosts a 1-0 lead in the 53rd minute. Nick Isaac played a beautiful ball ahead to Wallace, who beat his defender and one-touched the ball with the outside of his foot past Trine's goalkeeper.

In the 68th minute, Boettcher doubled the Otterbein lead with his first goal of the season. Josh Lord sent a pass across the field and ahead to Boettcher. Boettcher sailed the ball past the Trine keeper to inflate Otterbein's advantage to 2-0. Boettcher's insurance goal proved to be the difference, as the Thunder scored in the 71st minute to trim the lead in half.

Down the stretch, Otterbein held off Trine until the waning seconds. As the final seconds ticked away, a Thunder look at the equalizer ricocheted off the post, preserving the home win for the Cardinals.

On Tuesday, the Cardinals head to regional power Kenyon College for a 5 p.m. match.
