Stellar offense lifts No. 21 volleyball over OWU

DELAWARE, Ohio – Turning in their best attacking percentage of the season, the No. 21 Otterbein University volleyball team swept Ohio Wesleyan University on Saturday morning. Moving to 11-1 on the year, the Cardinals are off to their best start since 2019.

Emerson Baum's 12 kills led the Cardinals, attacking at a stout .550 mark. Olivia Vitaz's 26 assists and seven digs were both team-highs in the road win.

Otterbein rolled to a set one victory, utilizing a 4-0 run late in the set to claim a 19-13 lead. Baum and Vitaz did all the damage in the stretch, each recording a kill and two assisted blocks. Holding good momentum for the remainder of the set, Brooke Barb's kill vaulted Otterbein to a 25-19 win in the first set.

Trailing 16-12 in the second, the Cardinals clawed back to even the game at 16. Ohio Wesleyan regained the lead after a kill, but Otterbein once again answered with another 4-0 run to clinch the lead for good. A pair of kills from Lexi Scott lifted Otterbein to a 20-17 advantage in that run, seeing the junior finish with nine kills total. The Cardinals took the set 25-20 thanks to three consecutive kills from Barb to conclude the set.

The visitors dominated in the final set to sweep the Battling Bishops 25-14. Scoring seven of the set's final 10 points, Otterbein made quick work of OWU to earn its 11th win of the year. Otterbein attacked at a .375 clip – their highest mark of the season and fourth time turning in an attacking percentage over .300.

The Cardinals return to the Rike Center on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. match against Kenyon College.
