Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's soccer blanks the Berg, 3-0

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – In a dominant effort, the Otterbein University men's soccer team defeated Heidelberg University, 3-0. A strong presence by the Cards prevented the Berg from recording a shot on goal.

Nate Werthmuller scored a pair of goals for the Cardinals, getting the hosts on the board in the 23rd minute. Freshman Sean Markland played a ball to Werthmuller, who buried a deep shot into the upper right corner to give Otterbein the lead.

Just before the half, Otterbein doubled its lead when Aidan Thomas scored his first goal of the season. Coasten Hejduk's pass was deflected by Mitch Wheeler to Thomas. Thomas beat the Berg keeper to provide Otterbein a 2-0 advantage at the break.

Werthmuller's goal in the 62nd minute closed out the scoring, as Josh Lord found his fellow senior for his second goal of the night.

Otterbein outshot the Berg by a 19-4 margin, with Jayden Burdine earning the clean sheet in net.

A rematch of last year's OAC Tournament Championship awaits on Saturday when the Cardinals host Ohio Northern. Kickoff against the Polar Bears is scheduled for 1 p.m.
