No. 19 Otterbein drops Denison in straight sets

GRANVILLE, Ohio – After a sluggish start, the No. 19 Otterbein University volleyball team dominated the final two sets to sweep Denison in straight sets. The Cardinals claimed the opener 25-21, the visitors rallied to a pair of sizable wins at 25-16 and 25-10.

With neither team truly finding its groove in the first set, Otterbein settled in over the final four points. Tied at 21-21, Elise Adelman's kill gave the Cardinals the point, starting a 4-0 run by Otterbein. The Cards followed with back to back kills off the hand of junior Emerson Baum before Lexi Scott's ended the set. Scott's 14 kills were a game-high in the win.

Otterbein found its momentum in the second set, breaking out to an early 8-4 lead, thanks to three kills by Courtney Post. The Cardinals consistently kept their foot on the gas, as two errors by the Big Red sealed a 25-16 win for Otterbein.

In the final set, the Cards rallied to an early 12-1 lead and never looked back. With Scott adding four of her kills in that stretch, Otterbein continued to capitalize on Denison miscues. The Big Red hit just -.024 in the third set compared to a blistering .351 mark by the visitors.

For the match, Otterbein hit at a .299 clip compared to .054 by the Big Red.

Baum joined Scott as the only Otterbein player in double-digit kills, adding 12 on a .423 hitting percentage. Adelman dished out 33 aces in the win. Makenzie Schellenberger paced the defense, racking up 17 digs, as Ashley Kefauver finished with 11. Junior Chandler Crowell finished the night with eight kills and 10 digs.
