Women's basketball heads to OAC Championship game

WESTERVILLE, OhioMattie Walburn's career night lifted the (RV) Otterbein University women's basketball team to the OAC Tournament Championship game Saturday at No. 8 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace. Chalk held through the tournament, with the No. 2 seeded Cardinals taking on the No. 1 seed Yellow Jackets.

Baldwin Wallace won both regular season games, including a tight match in the Rike in early January. A lethal third quarter from beyond the arc helped the Yellow Jackets prevail, but the Cardinals kept the contest within single digits for a majority of the game. In the return trip to Berea, BW used a massive second period to pull away and win, 67-52.

SCOUTING OTTERBEIN (21-5, 11-2): Seeking their first-ever OAC Tournament Championship, First Team All-OAC honoree Mattie Walburn leads a young, but poised and talented squad. Flanked by fellow All-OAC honorees Kiara Hudgins and Cameron Sparks, Otterbein gutted out a solid performance in a defensive battle in the OAC Semifinals. On Thursday, the Cardinals defeated Mount Union 68-58 to secure their spot in the championship game.

SCOUTING BALDWIN WALLACE (24-2, 16-0): The OAC Regular Season Champions look to complete the sweep of both titles after a 49-34 victory in the Semifinal game. Backed by a stifling defense, Ohio Northern scored just one point in the fourth quarter against a veteran Yellow Jacket squad. Laura McCoy's 10.1 PPG pace BW, with three other players contributing at least seven PPG.
