MLAX dominates Hendrix in Spring Break opener

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Backed by a 10-goal first half, the Otterbein University men's lacrosse team snapped a four-game losing skid with a resounding 16-6 win over Hendrix College. Jack Regruth, Marcus Wright and Max Luther combined for 13 points in the win.

The first half was all Otterbein, building a 10-1 lead after two quarters. Otterbein scored the first four goals of the game, as Tyler Pruden found Luther less than two minutes in for an early lead. Moments later, freshman Nick King found Regruth to double the lead before Luther's second goal of the night inflated the advantage to 3-0. Zach Mulligan – who recorded two assists in the quarter – picked up his first on a feed to Wright and his second on a man-up goal to Regruth. After one, the Cardinals led 5-1.

All five goals of the second period belonged to Otterbein, beginning with Regruth finding Mulligan for the first of the quarter. Wright's second goal of the game was followed by a strike from sophomore Evan Crowe, as Luther tallied a pair before intermission. At the end of the first half, Otterbein held a commanding 10-1 edge over the Warriors.

Wright, King and Jacob Snyder all scored within the first five minutes of the third quarter to build the lead to 13-1. Hendrix scored twice, but King silenced the momentum by scoring off a pass from Regruth to push Otterbein ahead 14-3 through three quarters. Otterbein's final two goals came in the fourth quarter, courtesy of Crowe and Andrew Lewis.

Regruth's five points (2G, 3A) led all players, while Luther's four goals were a game-high. Wright added a hat trick and dished out an assist, while Mulligan and King each contributed three-point evenings.

At the X, Teagen Davis went 11-of-13, picking up five ground balls. In goal, Will Hoschak earned the win, making six saves. Matthew Steinmetz logged just over 18 minutes in net, tallying a pair of saves in the victory.

Otterbein was efficient on the clear, completing 23-of-29 attempts. The Cardinals also went 4-of-8 on EMOs, limiting Hendrix to an 0-for-1 mark.

The Cardinals will wrap up their Memphis trip on Friday with a contest against Wittenberg University. First faceoff against the Tigers is set for 12 p.m. CST.
