Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's lacrosse rallies to win second straight contest

MEMPHIS, Tenn.Max Luther provided the fourth quarter game-winning goal and the Cardinal defense held tough, as the Otterbein University men's lacrosse team defeated Wittenberg University, 10-7. Otterbein trailed 4-1 after one quarter, but the Cardinals fired off three goals in each of the remaining three periods to earn their second consecutive win.

Luther was one of two Cardinals to tally a hat trick in the win. Junior Andrew Lewis led all players with five points, coming via a three-goal, two-assist performance. Jack Regruth's tremendous year continued with a pair of goals and assists on Friday.

Zach Courie made 15 saves in goal to earn the win – seven of them coming in the fourth quarter to preserve the lead. Wittenberg outshot the Cardinals, 43-26, but Courie and a strong defensive unit limited the Tigers to seven goals.

Wittenberg led 3-0 until the waning seconds of the first quarter. Freshman Nick King got Otterbein on the board with his seventh goal of the season, but the Tigers immediately responded on the ensuing faceoff. After one quarter, the Tigers held a 4-1 advantage.

Luther scored his first goal of the afternoon five minutes into the second quarter off a feed from Zach Mulligan. The Cardinals closed the gap to one goal when King connected with Jack Regruth. Wittenberg once again provided an answer, this time less than one minute later to regain a two-goal lead. Lewis trimmed the deficit to one goal before the break with his first strike of the day, as the Tigers claimed a 5-4 lead at halftime.

To open the third quarter, the teams traded goals with Otterbein's coming from Mulligan and Lewis. Trailing by one goal, Lewis knotted the game at 7-7 with 3:06 remaining in the third on an unassisted goal. Luther vaulted the Cardinals ahead with 12:41 remaining and added an insurance goal two minutes later. Otterbein's final goal came from Regurth, assisted by Lewis.

Otterbein will have just over a week off before commencing OAC play. On Mar. 21, the Cardinals will travel to Heidelberg University for a 1 p.m. matchup.
