Fisher drives in three in loss to Oberlin

WESTERVILLE – Late heartbreak cost the Otterbein University baseball team in a 9-7 extra inning loss to Oberlin College. The Yeomen tied the game in the top of the ninth before pushing a pair across in the tenth.

Otterbein got on the board first with a two-out rally in the first. Nolan James worked a walk and JT Gels hit an opposite field single. Sophomore Daniel Uhl drove in the first run with a bloop single to right before Cam Fisher roped a line drive up the middle to plate Gels for a 2-0 lead.

Oberlin tied the game in the third with a two-run home run, but the Cardinals regained the lead in the home half of the inning. After the first two Cardinal hitters were retired on just two pitches, Uhl sent a single to center to extend the inning. Fisher followed by belting his second home run of the season for 4-2 Otterbein lead.

In the fourth, the hosts plated two more runs. Braylon Boggs and Calvin Mabry hit back to back singles and advanced 90 feet on a wild pitch. The pair were driven in on a two-run single off the bat of freshman catcher Jack Barber. The Yeomen sent two home in the top of the fifth, but Otterbein answered yet again on an RBI fielder's choice.

The Yeomen rallied to score twice in the seventh to cut Otterbein's lead to 7-6. In the ninth, Oberlin tied the game at 7-7 to send the game into extras where they added two more runs. Otterbein got the tying run on base in the bottom of the tenth, but the rally fell short.

Fisher was 2 for 3 with three RBI and drew a pair of walks. Boggs and Uhl also recorded multi-hit performances for the Cardinals.

Wednesday's single game against Wittenberg has been postponed due to incoming weather. The Cardinals will now host No. 18 Baldwin Wallace on Thursday, originally scheduled for Friday, for a twinbill beginning at noon.
