MLAX battles tough, falls to Adrian at home

WESTERVILLE – Hanging tough with a talented Adrian squad, the Otterbein University men's lacrosse team dropped a 14-9 decision to the Bulldogs on Friday.

Jack Regruth kicked things off with an early goal for the Cardinals off a feed from Andrew Lewis. Adrian answered off the face off seconds later, but Otterbein's leading scorer Max Luther vaulted the hosts back on top. Adrian tacked on a second goal before Marcus Wright found Jacob Snyder to give the hosts a 3-2 lead after the opening period.

The Bulldogs used a 3-0 run to claim a 5-3 lead with five minutes to play in the first half. Otterbein trimmed the deficit to one run when Gabe Thayer rifled home a shot, as the Cardinals trailed 5-4 at halftime.

Nicholas King tied the contest two minutes into the third quarter, but once more the Bulldogs had a response ready to go. Firing off two more goals in a short stretch, the visitors held a 7-5 lead until King and Wright worked to tie the game at 7-7. An unassisted strike by Luther followed by Bulldog goals pushed Adrian ahead 10-8 going into the final quarter.

In the fourth, Adrian controlled the pace, outscoring the hosts 4-1 to secure the road victory.

Otterbein was 18 of 20 on the clear and limited Adrian to converting 14 of 24 attempts. The struggles continued at the X, as Adrian won 19 faceoffs in the game. Junior goalie Zach Courie made 11 saves in the loss.

On Tuesday, the Cardinals travel to Rhodes College to take on Hendrix. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
