Baseball continues Myrtle Beach trip

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Tough late innings hurt the Otterbein University baseball team in a 10-5 loss to Penn College on Monday. Monday marked day three of the week-long trip to the Ripken Experience in South Carolina.

Penn College scored a run in each of the first three innings before the Cardinals rallied to tie the game in the bottom of the third. Geoffrey Siess was hit by a pitch to lead off the frame and Max Rubins beat out a bunt single. Sophomore Calvin Mabry hit a single the other way, loading the bases with one out. Nolan James ripped a single up the middle to drive in a pair and cut the deficit to one run. Later in the inning, Daniel Uhl worked a bases loaded walk to send home Mabry.

Otterbein claimed a 5-4 advantage in the bottom of the sixth thanks to an error by the Wildcats that allowed a pair to score. Uhl worked another walk and Cam Fisher hit an opposite field single.

Those runs would be all Otterbein would score, as the WIldcats struck for two in the seventh for a one run lead. In the eighth, Penn College tacked on four big insurance runs on four hits and a Cardinal miscue.

Mabry and James combined for four of Otterbein's six hits.

Tomorrow, Otterbein will play The University of Olivet in a twinbill. Game times are set for 12 and 3 p.m.
