James drives in four at Ohio Wesleyan

DELAWARE, Ohio – Despite an early lead, the Otterbein University baseball team dropped a 13-7 midweek decision to Ohio Wesleyan University on Tuesday afternoon.

Nolan James got the Cardinals on the board first with his second home run in as many at bats. Fresh off a walkoff blast on Saturday, the junior belted a 3-run home run to vault the visitors to a 3-0 lead in the first. OWU answered in the bottom of the inning with a pair of runs to cut the Cardinal lead to one run.

Calvin Mabry led off the third inning with a single and later came around to score to push the Otterbein lead to 4-2. In the bottom of the fourth, the Battling Bishops capitalized on a pair of Cardinal errors to tie the score at 4-4. Otterbein immediately responded in the top of the fifth to regain the lead, 6-4. Mabry used his speed to beat out a bunt single before an OWU error put two in scoring position for James. James rolled into an RBI groundout and JT Gels lifted a sac fly to center to cap off the rally.

Ohio Wesleyan put up a 4-spot in the bottom of the sixth to hold an 8-6 advantage. Otterbein's final run came in the top of the eighth when freshman Cam Fisher blasted his fourth home run of the season. In the home half of the frame, OWU scored five insurance runs to distance themselves from the Cardinals.

Otterbein committed six errors in the contest. Mabry, Barber and Fisher all had multi-hit performances, while James drove in four runs.

The Cardinals will host Ohio Wesleyan on Thursday for a 4 p.m. start.
