Balanced attack lifts MLAX over Willmington

WILMINGTON, Ohio – Holding off a late comeback, the Otterbein University men's lacrosse team earned a 22-16 win over Wilmington College. 13 different Cardinals recorded points in the balanced effort.

Jack Regruth's seven points led Otterbein, while Max Luther, Andrew Lewis and Jack Kennedy all recorded six points in the victory.

It took Otterbein just 11 seconds to get on the board, winning the opening face off before Regruth buried his first goal of the day off a feed from Tyler Pruden. Just over a minute later, Lewis connected with Regruth on a man-up goal for a 2-0 edge early on. Following a Wilmington goal, Regruth and Zach Mulligan provided the Cardinals with two more goals for a 4-1 lead.

Following Wilmington's second goal, the Cardinals fired off an 8-0 run that spanned the final six minutes of the first quarter through the first 10 minutes of the second quarter. Senior Marcus Wright ignited the run with Mulligan and Luther adding goals for a 7-2 lead after the opening period. Otterbein carried the momentum into the second quarter thanks to goals from Mulligan, Pruden, Lewis, Zach Merrill and Gabe Thayer

Otterbein tacked on four more goals in the third, courtesy of Matt Reader, Mulligan, Evan Crowe and Regruth. The Cardinals continued to fend off the Quakers in the final period, highlighted by Aidan Pirker's first goal.

16 of Otterbein's 22 goals were assisted. Max Esque caused a team-high three turnovers in the win, as Cole Swallows picked up five ground balls. Swallows, along with Pruden and Theron Cable each caused a pair of turnovers.

On Saturday, the Cardinals will host Muskingum University for Senior Day. First face off against the Muskies is scheduled for 1 p.m.
