Baseball celebrates seniors against Muskingum

WESTERVILLE – On Senior Day, the Otterbein University baseball team dropped two high-scoring games to Muskingum University, 15-6 and 27-15. Following the twinbill, the Cardinals honored its class of Sam Sethna, Caleb Bond, Dylan Andrews, Andrew Nemec, Adam Cooper and Michael Vega-Marquez

GAME ONE: Muskingum 15 Otterbein 6

Muskingum struck first in the top half of the first inning, using a 2-out, 2-run triple to take an early lead. After adding another in the second, Otterbein exploded for a 5-spot in the bottom of the third.

Gavin Scott and Geoffrey Siess led off the inning with walks and moved 90 feet on a sac bunt. A Muskie error allowed the first Cardinal run to cross before an infield single from Jack Barber gave Otterbein their second run. The big blow came off the bat of Nolan James, belting his fourth home run of the year on top of the cages in center for a 5-3 advantage.

Otterbein tacked on another run in the bottom of the fifth, thanks to an RBI groundout off the bat of James to score Calvin Mabry. That run would be the last the Cardinals would get, as the Fighting Muskies would rattle off 12 unanswered runs.

GAME TWO: Muskingum 27 Otterbein 15

In a game two slugfest, the Cardinals were led offensively by Barber and JT Gels. Barber was 4 for 5 with four RBI and four runs scored, while Gels drove in five with his four-hit performance. Mabry added two hits, both for extra bases for the Cardinals.

The two teams combined for 42 runs and 40 hits in the nightcap. Scott, Daniel Uhl and Max Rubins all recorded a pair of RBI in the second game. James added three hits.

On Tuesday, the Cardinals head to Bluffton for a non-conference single game. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
