Cardinals Show Fight in Twinbill at Baldwin Wallace

BEREA, Ohio — Otterbein put together several strong offensive moments and quality pitching stretches on Thursday afternoon, but the Cardinals ultimately dropped both ends of their OAC doubleheader at Baldwin Wallace, falling 6–3 and 5–2 at BW Softball Field.

Game One - Baldwin Wallace 6, Otterbein 3
Otterbein showed resilience after an early BW surge, using power at the plate to chip away across the middle innings. Trailing 5–0 after two frames, the Cardinals answered in the third when Emily Black doubled to right center and Caitlin Wilkins followed with an RBI double to get Otterbein on the board.

The Cardinals continued to claw back as Maggie McVicker launched a solo homer to left center in the fourth, followed an inning later by Mae Meldrum's solo shot to left center to make it a 6–3 game.

Reliever Kiley King steadied the game with five strong innings, allowing just one run and scattering five hits to keep Otterbein within striking distance.

Wilkins led the offense with a 2-for-4 effort, while Black, McVicker, Meldrum, and Emma Calkins all added extra‑base hits.

Game Two – Baldwin Wallace 5, Otterbein 2
The Cardinals came out firing in the nightcap, striking twice in the opening inning. Wilkins tripled to center field, and Kaylie Eichorn doubled her home before scoring herself moments later on a BW miscue.

Freshman Kaycee Berentz delivered one of her sharpest outings of the season, tossing a complete game without issuing a walk and striking out seven. She held BW to just two runs through five innings before the Yellow Jackets broke through with a three‑run sixth.

Wilkins again paced the offense with a 2-for-3 performance, adding a walk and a stolen base. Eichorn, Black, Rachel Miller, McVicker, and Cameron Biederman each contributed hits as well as Otterbein out‑hit BW 7–5 in game two.

The Cardinals return to the field next Wednesday as they host Ohio Northern. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
