WESTERVILLE – On Senior Day, the Otterbein University softball team was swept by Heidelberg University. The Cardinals dropped a tough 10-7 decision in extra innings before falling 11-2 in the nightcap.

GAME ONE: Heidelberg 10 Otterbein 7 (8 innings)
After the Berg claimed a 3-0 lead in the first, the Cardinals answered with a five-run fourth inning. Miller led off the inning with a single and moved to second on a walk drawn by
Maggie McVicker. With one away,
Kylie Galownia laced a single to left center to drive in Miller for the first Cardinal run.
Two batters later, Hart singled the other way to drive in pinch runner, Endsley, to bring the hosts within a run. The big blow came off the bat of Meldrum, who launched a 3-run home run onto the roof of the Clements Recreation Center to vault the Cardinals ahead, 5-3.
Heidelberg answered with runs in the fifth and six to tie the game at 5-5. In the eighth, the Berg broke through for five runs, building a sizable lead. Otterbein plated two runs in the home half of the frame thanks to RBIs from
Emily Black and Meldrum, but the Cardinals left the tying run at the plate.
Hart was a perfect 4 for 4 to lead the offense. Meldrum smacked two hits and drove in four, while Kalownia added two hits as well.
GAME TWO: Heidelberg 11 Otterbein 2 (6 innings)
Heidelberg scored twice in the top of the first, but Otterbein immediately responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning. With the bases loaded and one out, Calkins roped a 2-run single to left center, driving in Galowina and Miller to tie the game. The Student Princes scored four runs in the third off two home runs for a 6-2 lead.
The Berg extended its lead with two runs in the fifth and reached the run-rule threshold in the sixth.
Tomorrow, Otterbein heads to Wittenberg for a non-conference twinbill. Game times are scheduled for 1 and 3 p.m.
