Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Late comeback falls short, Regruth hits 100 career points

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – A late comeback fell just short in the Battle for the Oar on Friday, as the Otterbein University men's lacrosse team dropped a 12-11 decision to Capital University. Jack Regruth tallied two goals, reaching the 100 career point milestone.

Sophomore Max Luther led the attack with five goals, as Marcus Wright contributed three points for the Cardinals.

Otterbein struck first with a goal less than a minute in from Luther. It took less than a minute for the Comets to respond with a goal of their own, setting up a back and forth opening quarter. After another Capital goal, Luther knotted the game at 2-2 off another pass from Wright just over three minutes into the game. With 8:28 remaining in the first quarter, Luther provided the Cardinals with a 3-2 lead, but the visitors tied it up to keep the score locked through 15 minutes.

Capital outscored the Cardinals 4-1 in the second to take a 7-4 lead into halftime. Otterbein's lone goal of the period came from senior Zach Mulligan off a feed from Andrew Lewis. The Comets stretched their lead to 11-7 heading into the final period. In the third, Otterbein received a pair of goals from Gabe Thayer and one more from Luther.

Luther and Wright opened the fourth with early goals, cutting the deficit to 11-9. After a Comet goal, Regruth answered to once more put the Cardinals within two goals with 8:58 to play. The Cardinals got solid looks but could not close the gap until under a minute when Regruth scored his second goal of the day. Capital won the ensuing face off to secure the road win.

Theron Cable caused two turnovers and picked up three ground balls. He was one of three Cardinals to record at least three ground balls, joining Wright, Tyler Pruden and Zach Courie

The Cardinals will have just over a week off before traveling to Baldwin Wallace. Game time in Berea is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Apr. 11.
