Otterbein University Athletics

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The (RV) Otterbein volleyball team traveled down the road to Capital University today to compete in the Pam Briggs Classic. The Cardinals defeated Washington and Jefferson in four sets and followed with a win over Hanover in straight sets.  
 
GAME ONE: Otterbein 3 Washington and Jefferson 1 

The Cardinals started off strong against the Presidents, taking the first set in a quick 25-14 fashion. After going point for point during set two, Otterbein sealed a 25-22 win with a kill from sophomore Claire Baker. In the third set, Washington and Jefferson pulled ahead early, taking the set 25-23. During the fourth and final set, Otterbein dominated immediately, keeping the Presidents at a single-digit score for most of the set. The Cardinals swiftly won the last set 25-14.  

Freshman Mallory Bledsoe led the way with assists for Otterbein during her first collegiate start, dishing out 54 for the Cardinals. Offensively, sophomore Addison Matovich was at the front of the pack, leading the arsenal with a career-high 12 kills while hitting a .375. Senior Emma Steiger added five aces and a career-best 21 digs for the Cardinals' victory. Additionally, Lexi Scott, Chandler Crowell, and Emerson Baum slammed seven kills each.  
 
GAME TWO: Otterbein 3 Hanover 0 

Following the win against Washington and Jefferson, the Cardinals started off strong and won the first set against Hanover 25-21. In the second set, the Panthers led early, but it was not enough to stop Otterbein from fighting back. A kill from Scott sealed a set two win, 25-23. The Cardinals pulled ahead in the middle of set three, winning 26-24 and solidifying the sweep against Hanover. Otterbein moves to 5-0 on the year after both wins.  

Crowell was at the forefront of the Otterbein offense, leading with 10 kills and hitting an impressive .381. Scott and Baum added eight kills each, while Elise Adelman added 31 assists for the Cardinal win. Baum swung at a .438 clip, as Matovich shined, contributing seven kills on 13 swings with no errors (.538). Senior Makenzie Schellenberger headed the defensive side of the match with 14 digs, followed by senior Ashley Kefauver with nine. 

Additionally, Schellenberger, Baum, Kefauver, and Adelman all dished out an ace to the Cardinal repertoire, as the team finished with seven.

The Cardinals return to their home base tomorrow at 10 a.m. to take on the Trine Thunder.
