WILMINGTON, OHIO—Otterbein evened its Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) record, breezing past Wilmington, 3-0, Tuesday in Wilmington.
The Cardinals, improving to 17-4 overall and 1-1 in the OAC, defeated the Quakers by scores of 25-14, 25-14, and 25-17. Wilmington dropped to 0-3 in league play.
“It was great to get our first conference win,” said third-year head coach Monica McDonald. “The Wilmington program has come a long way in the past few years and I knew their team would come ready to play.”
Senior middle blocker Leah Yoder and freshman middle hitter Ally Nagle led the Cardinal attack. Yoder, with seven kills, hit .545 over the three games. Nagle, hitting .389, led the team with nine kills.
Sophomore defensive specialists Renee Willke and Alicia Chafins combined for 25 digs.
“I was pleased with the way the team stayed focused throughout the match,” McDonald added. “We are more than ready for Mount Union this Saturday.”
The Cardinals are scheduled to host the Purple Raiders of Mount Union this Saturday in the Rike Center, beginning at 2 p.m. The Raiders come into the match 13-3 overall and 1-1 in the OAC. They lost at Capital, 3-1, Tuesday and defeated Baldwin-Wallace, 3-0, at home last Saturday.
