Cardinals Fly Past Capital, Reach 20-Win Plateau

WESTERVILLE, OHIO - Otterbein moved to 20-4 overall and 5-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference by sweeping cross-town rival Capital and then Manchester (IN) in three sets each Saturday afternoon.

Otterbein got off to a sluggish start against Capital, falling behind 11-6 to open game one. The team responded, however, to win ten of the next 11 points and vault on top at 16-12.

The Cards would go on to take game one 25-19, and carried the consistent play over to take game two 25-12.

Junior libero Lindsey Russell turned in an impressive effort with 14 digs in game two.

Otterbein jumped out in game three, but the Crusaders responded to tie the game at 10-10. The Cardinals rebounded and seized an 18-12 lead before going on to win game three 25-15 after a service ace from Russell.

Senior Rayna Coleman turned in a .591 hitting percentage on the match, registering 15 kills and just two errors on 22 attempts.

Sophomore Ally Nagle also had performed well, tallying 13 kills and just one error on 23 attempts (.478). 

Freshman Liz Palmer contributed five kills and no errors on six attempts. 

Russell finished with 24 digs, while setters Lydia Wynkoop and Lizzy Flynn handed out 22 and 20 assists, respectively.

The Cards then took the court later in the afternoon, and handled Manchester by marks of 25-20, 25-12, and 25-20.

Coleman turned in another solid effort, posting 11 kills, and just three errors, on 17 total attacks.

Nagle buried nine kills on 13 attempts while freshman Emily Caldwell recorded 15 digs in the winning effort.

Otterbein returns to action Tuesday evening, hosting conference foe Marietta at 7 p.m. Both teams will be wearing pink to support the Side-Out foundation's fight against breast cancer.
