WESTERVILLE, OHIO - The Otterbein women's volleyball program has been selected to compete in its first ever NCAA Division III women's volleyball tournament, and will open against 7th-ranked Calvin (MI) Thursday at Wittenberg in Springfield, Ohio. Match time is slated for 12:30 p.m.
The winner will advance to take on either Heidelberg or Greenville (IL) in the second round matchup, slated for Friday.
Otterbein, under fourth-year Head Coach Monica McDonald, received an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament after a record-breaking 26-6 season. The team finished second in the Ohio Athletic Conference regular season standings, going 8-1 in league play.
Sophomore Ally Nagle helps lead the offensive attack with a .387 hitting percentage, good enough to rank among the top-20 nationally. Senior Rayna Coleman adds to the mix by averaging 2.55 kills per set.
Junior libero Lindsey Russell ranks second nationally in digs, coming up with just over seven per set.
Calvin, under ninth-year Head Coach Amber Warners, is making its seventh-straight NCAA tournament appearance and 20th overall as a program. The Knights also received an at-large bid after falling to Hope in its conference title match.
Calvin is 20-21 all-time in the national tournament, boasitng one runner-up and two fourth-place finishes.
Junior Rebecca Camp leads the offensive attack, ranking second in all of Division III with a .447 hitting-percentage, and 17th in kills per set (4.25).
Freshman setter Megan Rietema sits tenth in the nation with just over 11 assists per set.
The two schools have never met in the NCAA tournament, but do share three common opponents this season in Mount Union, Heidelberg, and Ohio Northern.
Otterbein fell in five to Heidelberg, split with Northern, and pulled out a five-set victory against Mount.
The Knights lost in five sets to Heidelberg and defeated Northern and Mount in five and three sets, respectively.
