Otterbein Defeats Oberlin 77-45

OBERLIN, OHIO—The Otterbein University women’s basketball team defeated Oberlin College, 77-45, Wednesday in a nonconference game played in Philips Gymnasium in Oberlin.

With the win, the Cardinals improved to 2-3 overall and will open Ohio Athletic Conference play with ninth-ranked University of Mount Union at home this Saturday in the Rike Center as part of a doubleheader with the men’s team. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m.

Otterbein scored the first five points of the game and never trailed. The Cardinals closed out the first half with a 13-4 run to lead 33-18 at the break, and then opened the second period with a 13-4 run to lead, 46-22, with 14:45 to play.

Junior point guard Shea McCoy, coming off the bench, led all scorers with 20 points, just one point off her career high of 21. She made 9 of 12 shots from the field, including 2 of 4 from three-point range. She also collected five assists and seven rebounds all in 23 minutes of work.

Sophomore forward Hannah Day scored a career-high 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting. She hit two threes and pulled down six rebounds.

The Cardinal bench accounted for 42 points in the win.

As a team, Otterbein shot 50.8 percent from the field, making 31 of 61 field-goal attempts. The Cardinals shot a blistering 60.7 percent in the second half. Otterbein out-rebounded Oberlin, 52-38, and held them to 22.4 percent shooting from the field.
