MARIETTA, OHIO – The Otterbein University women’s basketball team, now 2-6 overall and 0-3 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, suffered a 68-64 loss at Marietta College (4-3, 1-1 OAC) Saturday afternoon at the Ban Johnson Arena.
The Pioneers held an early 12-7 lead, but Otterbein came back and found themselves up 21-18 after a three-pointer from junior Shea McCoy.
Otterbein then opened a 29-21 lead with 5:22 before the half after the second of back-to-back made three-pointers from junior Julie Macioce.
However, Marietta responded by storming on a 13-2 run over the next five minutes, and would eventually take a 34-33 edge into the break.
The Cards opened the second half strong, and took a 42-36 lead at the 16:40 mark after sophomore Rachel Snedegar split a pair of free-throws.
The Pioneers stuck around, took the lead on an old-fashioned three-point play at the 12:42 mark, and used four makes at the charity stripe from Mallory Hoff to widen the margin to 49-44 over the next two minutes.
Otterbein continued to battle and tied the game at 51-51, and took a 53-52 lead off a Snedegar jumper with just over five minutes to go.
Marietta fought back with a short 7-0 run to take a 59-53 lead, and held off the Cards down the stretch for the victory.
Junior guard Kristi Kotterman led Otterbein with 19 points, six rebounds, and four assists, but shot just 4-of-13 from the field. She buried all ten of her attempts at the free-throw line.
McCoy marked the only other Cardinal in double figures, tallying ten on a 4-of-16 effort from the floor.
Tori Dixon scored a game-high 23 to lead Marietta, which made up for 20 turnovers by shooting .440 from the field compared to Otterbein’s .310.
Otterbein has the middle of the week off before returning home to host John Carroll University at the Rike Center Saturday evening. Tip-off is slated for 5 p.m.
