Women's Basketball to Host Heidelberg

WESTERVILLE, OHIO – The Otterbein University women’s basketball team (5-9, 1-6 OAC) looks for another conference victory Wednesday against Heidelberg University (1-12, 0-6 OAC). Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.

The Cards enter the matchup after splitting a pair of games last week, beating rival Capital 88-81 in overtime on Wednesday before barely slipping 58-57 at Muskingum Saturday afternoon. Heidelberg comes to Westerville after suffering a 72-56 defeat at the hands of Marietta Saturday.

Junior guard Kristi Kotterman made the game-tying basket with one second remaining in regulation against Capital, and finished the night with a career-high 27 points. She ranks second on the team with 13.3 ppg. this season, and, leads the team with an impressive 6.4 rebounds per outing as a guard.

Junior Shea McCoy leads the squad with a 15.8 ppg. average, and runs the point guard duties for the Cardinals elusive attack. She totaled 22 points in Saturday’s contest at Muskingum.

Sophomore Hannah Day scored a career-best 16 points off the bench in the Capital victory, and has been contributing nicely this season with over seven points and five rebounds per game.

Junior Katie Stallard and scrappy sophomore Rachel Snedegar serve as valuable pieces to the rotation. Stallard is scoring over seven points per game while Snedegar is tallying 5.7 ppg. and 5.5 rpg.

The Student Princes are paced by senior Jenny Miller, who leads the team in both scoring (14.2 ppg) and rebounding (8.8 rpg).

Freshman Kathleen Phillips (10.8 ppg.) and Emily Giel (8.1 ppg) are proving to be nice additions to the team this season, ranking second and third on the team in scoring. Giel also leads Heidelberg with over three assists per outing.

Otterbein is averaging 66.8 points per game this season to rank in the middle of the pack within the league, while Heidelberg sits tenth in team scoring at just 54 points per game. The Cardinals rank second as a unit in rebounding, hauling in 42 per game.

The schools split the season series a year ago. Heidelberg prevailed with a 65-64 victory at the beginning of the season before Otterbein got even with a 74-53 victory on its home floor Jan. 27.

Both McCoy and Kotterman averaged 11 ppg. over the two meeting with Heidelberg last winter. Miller tallied 22 points and eight rebounds in the first meeting, but the Cards were able to limit her in the second meeting as she posted just six points and four boards.

The Cardinals remain at home for the rest of the week, hosting Wilmington Saturday at 5 p.m.
