WESTERVILLE, OHIO – The Otterbein University women’s basketball team improved to 8-11 overall and 4-8 in league play with a 78-56 victory over visiting Marietta Saturday evening in the Rike Center.
The Cardinal win gives the team sole possession of eighth place in the Ohio Athletic Conference standings, and drops the Pioneers to 7-12 on the season, 3-9 against league foes.
Sophomore Hannah Day scored the first six points for Otterbein, and the Cards held a 13-11 lead midway through the first half.
Marietta took a five-point lead by the 7:57 mark, but the Cards rallied to go on an 11-0 run over the next three minutes, taking a 26-20 lead at the 4:15 mark after a layup from Day.

A buzzer-beating floater in the lane from junior Shea McCoy ended the first half, giving Otterbein a 34-29 advantage.
Day and McCoy combined for 21 points in the first half as the Cards’ shot just 15-of-38 as a team. Marietta went 10-of-20 from the field, turning the ball over 13 times.
The Pioneers scored the first points of the second half, but Otterbein strung together successful possessions, eventually using an 11-0 run top open a 55-39 lead with ten minutes to play.
Marietta never got closer than 13 the rest of the way as the Cards earned the 78-56 victory.
Day finished with a new career-high 21 points on 8-of-18 shooting, and also pulled down seven rebounds. McCoy also scored 21 while Kristi Kotterman finished with 13.
Aleisha Guiler led Marietta with 15 points.
Otterbein grabbed 22 offensive rebounds in the contest while also coming up with 17 steals.
The Cards next host Baldwin-Wallace College on Wed, Feb. 2 at 7:30 p.m. Otterbein led B-W by 18 points at halftime in their meeting earlier this season before the Jackets came back to steal an overtime victory.
