BEXLEY, OHIO – The Otterbein University men’s soccer team dropped a 3-1 contest at rival Capital University Saturday afternoon.
The loss takes Otterbein to 3-8-2 on the season and 1-4 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Meanwhile, the win bring the Crusaders to 6-7-1 overall and 1-3-1 in league play.
The host Crusaders got on the board first, scoring in the 14th minute when Nick Eley made his way to a free ball in front of the net and headed it home.
Capital pushed the advantage to 2-0 by the 23:32 mark, as Tim McCarthy took a pass behind the Cardinal defense and beat Otterbein keeper Kyle Ripma.
Otterbein cut the deficit in half less than two minutes later when senior
Kurt Gallant scored his fifth goal of the season with a shot inside the box. Junior Dustin Kiaski was credited with the assist.
Capital, however, bounced back with a goal of its own three minutes later when Derek Cox dribbled past a defender to score.
The match would see no scoring in the second half as the Crusaders would preserve the 3-1 victory.
Otterbein held an 18-15 shot advantage , and took six of the game’s seven corner kicks.
Ripma tallied five saves for the Cardinals while Capital goalkeeper Bob Weisgarber came up with three.
The Cards return to action Wednesday, Oct 19 when they travel to take on Marietta College. Starting time is slated for 4 p.m.
