MARIETTA, OHIO -- Senior guard Kristi Kotterman led four players in double-figures with 19 points Saturday afternoon as the Otterbein University Cardinals posted a 68-60 win at Marietta College in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play.
With the win, the Cardinals improve to 2-1 in the OAC, 7-1 overall. Meanwhile, the Pioneers fall to 2-1 in league play, 7-2 overall.
Kotterman finished the afternoon with 19 points on 7-of-15 shooting and finished with eight rebounds. She also led the team with four steals. Kotterman has been the team’s leading scorer this season, averaging a career-high 17.8 points per game.
Junior forwards Hannah Day and Rachel Snedegar both finished with 11 points apiece. Snedegar added eight rebounds to improve her team-high rebound average to 7.8 per game. Senior guard Shea McCoy finished the afternoon with 10 points, while junior guard Allie Leopard led the Cardinals with six assists.
After the two teams exchanged baskets early, the Cardinals went on an 18-4 run, capped off by a pair of Snedegar buckets to give Otterbein a 28-16 lead with 6:38 remaining in the first half.
The Cards went scoreless for the rest of the half, and the Pioneers managed to trim the lead to 28-24 heading into the break.
Marietta added another basket to open the second half and cut the Otterbein lead to two. However the Cards responded with a 13-4 run to extend their lead to 11 with 13:28 remaining in the game.
The Pioneers managed to reduce the Cardinals lead to five after a Marietta trey made the score 54-49 with 5:29 remaining. But Otterbein weathered the storm and never allowed the Pioneers to get any closer. The Cardinals hit key shots down the stretch, including 4-of-7 free throws, to seal the victory.
Kotterman is quickly moving up the all-time points list at Otterbein. Her 19 points today passed
Jennifer Harrison (1999-02) for 14th on the all-time list. She is now only seven points shy of 1,000 for her career.
The Cardinals return to action next Saturday, Dec. 17, when they host John Carroll. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. at the Rike Center.
