TIFFIN, OHIO – Otterbein University women’s basketball notched a 90-53 victory at Heidelberg University Wednesday evening, improving to 12-3 on the season and 6-2 in Ohio Athletic Conference play. The victory helps the Cardinals exceed last season's win total of 11.
The loss drops the Student Princes to 4-10 overall and 1-6 in league play.
The Cardinals jumped on top from the get-go, taking a 15-2 lead after six minutes of action before playing to a 30-12 advantage by the 8:05 mark.
Otterbein pushed its first-half lead to as many as 27 before heading into halftime ahead 49-25.
Junior Hannah Day scored 11 points on a perfect 5 for 5 shooting in the opening frame. The Cards shot an impressive .631 from the field and 5 of 8 from three-point range.
Otterbein pushed the margin to 30 points nearly three minutes into the second half before coasting to victory.
Day finished with a game-high 18 points on 7-of-8 shooting. Senior guard Shea McCoy, senior guard Kristi Kotterman, and junior forward Rachel Snedegar all finished with 12 points apiece.
Kotterman and Day also tied for a game-high six rebounds.
Erika Jordan scored 14 points to lead Heidelberg, which shot just .284 from the field compared to Otterbein's .516 effort. Both sides turned the ball over 17 times while Otterbein held a solid 49-33 edge in rebounding.
Otterbein, having played its last three games away from home, returns to Westerville for a Saturday afternoon matchup with Wilmington College. Tip-off from the Rike Center is scheduled for 3 p.m.
