ADA, OHIO – The Otterbein University women’s basketball team suffered a 66-58 loss at Ohio Northern University Wednesday evening, falling to fourth place in the Ohio Athletic Conference standings.

The loss takes Otterbein to 13-5 on the season and 7-4 in league play, while the win propels the Polar Bears to 15-3 overall, 9-2 in OAC play.

Ohio Northern held a 19-15 lead nine minutes into the game, but Otterbein remained close and pulled ahead, at 23-21, after a three-pointer from senior Shea McCoy at the 8:52 mark.

The Cards stayed hot, grabbing a 40-35 lead with 1:18 before intermission after a fast break layup from junior Rachel Snedegar. The Polar Bear offense kept pace, however, as Otterbein took a slim 40-37 lead into halftime.

McCoy turned in a solid first half, going 5 for 8 from the field and hitting all three shots from behind the arc en route to 14 points.

Otterbein remained on top in the early stages of the second half, holding a 46-41 lead before the Polar Bears sprinted on an 11-0 run to seize a 52-46 advantage with 8:46 remaining in the game.

A jumper by junior forward Hannah Day halted the run, but the Cardinals would not be able to cut the deficit any further. Ohio Northern would not allow Otterbein to come within seven points for the remainder of the game, preserving the victory.

McCoy led the Cardinals with 17 points, shooting 4-of-6 from three-point range. Day added 15 off the bench.

Senior Kristi Kotterman, the OAC's second-leading scorer entering the contest, finished with just two points on 1 of 14 shooting but did collect a game-high 12 rebounds.

Junior Morgan Dumbaugh paced the Polar Bear attack with 19 points on 7-of-14 shooting.

The Cardinals return home to the Rike Center to entertain Marietta College Saturday Jan. 28 at 3 p.m.
