Cards Sweep Capital to Finish Regular Season

BEXLEY, Ohio – The 13th-ranked Otterbein University volleyball team ended its regular season with a win Saturday morning, knocking off crosstown Capital University in three sets.

Otterbein won by scores of 25-23, 25-15, 25-16 to move to 23-7 overall and finish at 8-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) for a third-straight season. The Cards will host Capital (11-20, 3-6 OAC) again on Tuesday evening in an OAC Tournament quarterfinal match, starting at 7 p.m.

Otterbein found itself down 22-20 in set one but rallied to win the opener 25-23, capped by a kill from junior Liz Palmer.

Game two was close early on, but the Cardinals broke open an 11-11 tie to win 14 of the next 18 points, taking set two 25-15. Otterbein finished the job in set three, winning 25-16.

Senior Kristen Bennett turned in a match-high 12 kills, and just one error, on 19 attempts to record a .579 percentage. Palmer followed with nine kills while Annie Juenger and Kim Barker had eight and six, respectively.

Libero Emily Caldwell came up with 17 digs while setter Tabatha Piper distributed 32 assists.

Olivia Arledge led the Capital offensive attack with nine kills, while Angie Fisher and Katie Weilbacher combined for 23 assists.
