NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Otterbein University bumped its record to 3-1 over the weekend, sweeping a pair of games at the St. Mary’s College (Ind.) Thanksgiving Classic.

Otterbein defeated the host Belles, 73-56, on day one before pulling out a 67-64 win over Albion College Sunday afternoon to finish the trip.

Day 1 vs. St. Mary’s

The Cardinals carried an 11-point lead into halftime against the Belles, and widened the advantage to 55-35 by the 13:58 mark of the second half. Otterbein maintained control and never let St. Mary’s make a push in cruising to victory.

Senior Hannah Day turned in her second 24-point effort of the season, burying 10 of 14 shots from the field while also tying for a team-high seven rebounds.

Chelsea Cannon and Madi Miller scored 11 and 10 points, respectively, while sophomore Tabatha Piper contributed in multiple areas with nine points, seven boards, and four assists.

Point Guard Allie Leopard also scored nine points and tied for a game-best six assists.

Day 2 vs. Albion

The opening half remained a one-possession battle throughout the first nine minutes, and Otterbein found some breathing room by using a 16-4 run to open a 33-22 lead.

The Britons remained within striking distance as the Cards took a 39-32 lead into halftime.

Albion scored the first seven points of the second half to tie the game at 39-39, but Otterbein hung tough and later put together a 10-0 run to stand on top, 55-46, with 9:56 remaining in regulation.

The Britons strung together a nice run of their own, scoring 14 of the game’s next 17 points and assuming a slim 60-57 edge as the clock moved under four minutes.

Otterbein responded as Day and Piper each scored a pair of layups over the next two minutes, vaulting the Cards ahead, 65-60, with 1:10 to play.

The Otterbein defense stood strong down the stretch, and a pair of free throws from senior Rachel Snedegar ultimately secured the win with six seconds remaining.

Day led four Cardinals in double figures with 15 points on 6 of 15 shooting, and Snedegar added a double-double with 13 points and 11 boards.

Piper had 11 points and six rebounds while classmate Madi Miller scored 10. Cannon had nine points and Leopard distributed six assists for the second-straight game.

Otterbein out-rebounded Albion 38-26 for the contest, including 13 boards on the offensive end. The Cardinals also held advantages in points in the paint (38-24), points off turnovers (18-11), and bench scoring (14-8).
