WILMINGTON, OHIO -- Senior guard Shea McCoy nailed a running jump shot from the left side with 0.4 seconds remaining in the game to propel the Cardinals to a 63-61 victory over Wilmington College, Saturday afternoon at the Fred Raizk Arena.
The win sends Otterbein University (19-6, 13-5) into the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Tournament on a high-note, while the loss locks the Quakers (12-13, 7-11) into the No. 6 seed.
The Cardinals will now await the winner of Wilmington and seventh seeded John Carroll, who will play Monday, Feb 20.
The Cardinals held a three-point lead with 1:07 left in the game, but the Quakers tied the game at 61-61 on an old fashioned three-point play by Shelby Kies with one minute remaining in the game.
After an Otterbein turnover, Kies missed a jump shot with 27 seconds that could have given Wilmington the lead. Freshman Tabatha Piper rebounded the errant shot, and the Cardinals used a time out with 19 seconds remaining.
Otterbein used another time out with eight seconds left, and out of the break McCoy hit a runner in traffic from the left side to give the Cardinals the victory.
McCoy led all scorers with 15 points on 6 of 8 shooting, while Hannah Day added 13. Piper also contributed 12 and hauled in eight rebounds.
The back-and-forth contest saw 18 lead changes and nine ties.
Otterbein, who entered the game ranked ninth in the OAC in free throw percentage, shot 10 of 12 (.833) at the line.
The Cardinals will host the Wilmington/John Carroll winner in the OAC quarterfinals on Tuesday, Feb. 21. The tip-off time has not yet been determined.
