Men's Soccer Falls 1-0 at Heidelberg

Box Score
TIFFIN, Ohio – Otterbein University men's soccer came up short in conference action Saturday afternoon, narrowly falling 1-0 at Heidelberg University.

The Cardinals drop to 6-8 overall and 1-4 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) with the result, with the Student Princes moving to 94 this season and 3-2 against league schools.

Heidelberg held a slim 8-7 shot advantage throughout the first half, but converted one of their opportunities with a goal from Christopher Koczak in the 14th minute.

The Cardinals saw a few opportunities for an equalizer in the latter part of the first half, taking two corner kicks and roping four shots on goal. An Otterbein shot from Evan Fallon with 54 seconds to go was saved by Heidelberg keeper Matthew Stevens as the hosts took the 1-0 margin into halftime.

Otterbein saw another chance to draw even with less than ten minutes remaining in the match, but Stevens made a save on a shot from leading scorer Jared Pulliam as Heidelberg ultimately secured the win.

The Student Princes finished with a 20-11 advantage in shots, but just a 5-4 edge on goal. Stevens and Cardinal goalkeeper Kyle Ripma each tallied four saves on the day.

Otterbein will return to action Wednesday, traveling to Wilmington College for a 7 p.m. evening match. The Cardinals defeated the Quakers, 2-1, last season in Westerville.
