Women's Basketball Suffers 74-62 Loss to Muskingum

Box Score
WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Otterbein University women's basketball was dealt its second-straight Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) loss Saturday afternoon, falling 74-62 to visiting Muskingum University inside the Rike Center.

Otterbein (3-4, 0-2 OAC) jumped out in front for the second game in a row, assuming a 17-9 lead just eight minutes in after a three-pointer from freshman Kyleigh Wyeth.

Muskingum battled back, going on a 10-2 run to eventually draw even, at 19-19, with 6:26 to play before halftime. The remainder of the first half remained a one-possession battle before a layup from Tabatha Piper in the closing seconds gave the Cards a 25-24 halftime advantage.

The visitors came out strong to begin the second period, scoring 13 of the first 18 points to open a 37-30 lead by the 15:12 mark.

Otterbein later used a quick 7-0 run to draw within a bucket at 41-39, but the Fighting Muskies struck back with a 13-4 spurt to take its largest lead of the game to that point, 54-43, as the game clocked ticked under six minutes.

That run would ultimately prove to be the difference make as Muskingum managed to snap its four-game losing skid and improve to 2-4 on the season, 1-1 in league play.

Piper led Otterbein with yet another double-double, going for 18 points and a career-high 15 rebounds in the losing effort. She marked the only Cardinal in double figures as both Chelsea Reed and Amariah Huck scored nine.

Tori Jarrett led the Muskie attack with a game-high 23 points while also grabbing nine rebounds. Gabbi Davis dropped 16 points and Meghan Billick contributed nicely with 14.

Both teams shot similar percentages from the field, but the Cardinals committed more than twice as many turnovers at 17-7.

The Cardinals will have the middle of next week off for final exams before hosting the University of Mount Union Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
