Cards Clinch No. 2 Seed in OAC Tournament

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein University women’s basketball team coasted past visiting Heidelberg University Saturday afternoon in the Rike Center, clinching the No. 2 seed and a double bye in the upcoming Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Tournament.

The Cardinals won by a score of 73-45 to finish the regular season at 20-5 overall and 14-4 in the league, reaching the 20-win plateau in back-to-back seasons for the first time in program history. Otterbein went 20-7 last season in finishing third for the OAC regular season.

Otterbein will host an OAC semifinal contest Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m., with the opponent yet to be determined. Click here for more OAC Tournament information.

The Cards opened an early 20-10 advantage over Heidelberg (6-19, 2-16 OAC), but the Student Princes stayed close and trailed just 21-17 with 6:32 to play before the half.

Otterbein built the lead back to double digits by halftime, and never looked back after opening the second half on an 18-6 run.

Senior Hannah Day posted a game-high 28 points, including a 5 of 6 effort from long range, over her 33 minutes of action. She currently sits at 955 points for her Otterbein career.

Seniors Allie Leopard and Chelsea Cannon each scored 11, while classmate Bourke Kelley performed admirably off the bench with seven points and a game-best 11 boards.

Jordan Ickes scored 14 points to pace Heidelberg, which shot just .290 from the field compared to Otterbein’s .453.

The Cardinals dominated down low, outscoring the Berg 32-18 in the paint and finishing with a 47-31 rebounding advantage.

Day, Leopard, Cannon, Kelley, and fellow seniors Rachel Snedegar, Laura Gilmore, and Alayna Barnes were recognized prior to tip-off as part of Senior Day. The group has gone 62-42 over their four seasons together.
