WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Otterbein University women's basketball came up short during its "Rivalry Week" battle with Capital University Saturday evening, suffering a 75-58 defeat in the Rike Center.

The Cardinals, now 5-8 overall and 1-5 within the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC), will return to action Wednesday evening with a 7:30 p.m. home game against Wilmington College. The cross-town Crusaders improve themselves to 7-5 this season and 4-2 against league foes.

Otterbein got off to a quick start, taking a 14-6 lead after six minutes of play before hitting a scoring drought. The Cards failed to score over the next four minutes as Capital settled in to grab a 19-16 lead by the midway point of the opening half.

A pair of free throws from junior Madi Miller brought Otterbein within three at the 2:45 mark before the visitors opened a 41-34 advantage entering intermission.

Capital take control for good early in the second half, pushing the lead to double digits just one minute in and never looking back.

Sophomore Amariah Huck led the Cardinals with 12 points, which included an 8-of-10 effort from the free-throw line. Mary Corbett dropped 10 while leading-scorer Tabatha Piper finished with nine points and nine rebounds.

Cookie Geroski scored a new career-high of 27 points to lead Capital, which shot an impressive 9 of 12 from beyond the arc during the game. The Crusaders committed just 11 turnovers compared to Otterbein's 17.

Following the matchup with Wilmington, Otterbein will stay at home to host Heidelberg University come Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
