WESTERVILLE, Ohio – After numerous lead changes throughout, the Otterbein University women's basketball team defeated Heidelberg University, 64-55, in the Rike Center on Saturday.
The Berg (10-5, 3-5 OAC) and the Cardinals (6-9, 2-6 OAC) battled back and forth, with Otterbein holding the lead for the majority of the second part of the first half before Heidelberg jumped ahead to end the half with a 32-30 lead.
Both teams shot nearly identical from the field in the first half, with the Cardinals shooting 52.2 percent and the Student Princes shooting 52.6 percent.
The back-and-forth action continued in the second half as there were ten lead changes between the two teams, including five lead changes in the final 10 minutes of the game.
After taking a 47-46 lead with 5:50 left, Otterbein began to run away with the game, growing their lead to as much as nine en route to the win.
Junior guard Mary Corbett was 4 for 8 from the field and 4 for 4 from the free-throw line to lead the Cardinals with 15 points. Junior Madi Miller and sophomore Amariah Huck also scored in double digits for Otterbein, with 12 each. Junior Tabatha Piper had a double-double, scoring 11 and leading both squads with 10 rebounds.
Heidelberg's Carli Patrick had a game-high 16 points to lead both teams. She was one of two players with double-digit points for the Student Princes, who played the contest without leading-scorer Kathleen Phillips (21.8 ppg.)
Otterbein shot 49 percent the field, including 6 for 13 from behind the arc, outshooting Heidelberg, who finished 38.5 percent from the field.
Otterbein will start a two-game road trip as they take on John Carroll University Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. Last season, the Cardinals took both games from the Blue Streaks.
