Late Run Helps Lift Cardinals to Victory at Muskingum

Box Score
NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The Otterbein University women's basketball squad got a bit of revenge Saturday afternoon, running away in the second half to earn a 78-58 win at Muskingum University.

The Cardinals, having lost to the Muskies earlier this season at home, improve themselves to 7-10 overall and 3-7 within the Ohio Athletic Conference.

Otterbein trailed throughout most of the first half before jumping ahead at 28-26 after freshman Cheyenne Hartley-Carr knocked down a trifecta at the 2:46 mark.

Muskingum (4-12, 2-8 OAC) scored the last four points of the half to take a slim 30-28 lead at the break, but the second half would belong to the Cardinals.

Junior Mary Corbett scored 17 of her career-high 27 points after intermission, burying a three-point on Otterbein's first possession to help set the tone.

The Muskies kept it a one-possession battle as the game clocked moved under 12:00, but Otterbein would embark on a 24-6 run spanning the next six minutes to open a 21-point lead. The hosts would get no closer than 15 the rest of the way as Otterbein cruised to victory.

Corbett scored her career-high 27 on an 8-of-11 effort from the field, which included five three-pointers and a perfect 6-of-6 mark at the free-throw line. Sophomore Amariah Huck finished out an impressive week by contributing another double-double of 21 points and 12 rebounds.

Point guard Chelsea Reed managed the game nicely from her lead guard position, dishing out a season-high 12 assists to go along with eight points and three steals.

The Cards shot 46.6 percent from the floor while limiting Muskingum to 29.6 percent on the other end. Otterbein finished with a 27-9 edge in points off turnovers and forced the Muskies into shooting 7 of 27 from beyond the arc.

Otterbein will return home to begin action next week, hosting Marietta College Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m. The Cards narrowly fell, 71-69, earlier this season to the Pioneers when a potential game-winning three-pointer from Madi Miller just missed the mark at the buzzer.
