ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Otterbein women's volleyball team came up short in its quest for an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) regular-season title Friday evening, falling in three sets at No. 7-ranked Mount Union.
Â
The Cardinals, losing 25-11, 250-17, 25-18, finish the OAC schedule at 7-2 and will most likely be the third seed in next week's postseason tournament. If John Carroll, who holds the tiebreaker over Otterbein as a result of a head-to-head win earlier this season, were to lose to Muskingum, then the Cardinals would claim the second seed.
Â
Otterbein (16-12, 7-2 OAC) will host its OAC quarterfinal matchup on Tuesday in the Rike Center, beginning at 7 p.m. The opponent has yet to be determined.
Â
Mount Union (25-4, 8-1 OAC) jumped all over Otterbein from the start, claiming a 25-11 win in the first set to take an early advantage.Â
Â
Otterbein took a 15-14 lead midway through the second set on a kill from senior Kim Barker, but the Raiders responded with a quick 7-1 run to open a 21-16 lead and eventually take the game.
Â
The Cardinals hung close to begin the third, tying the set at 10-10 and again at 11-11 after attacking errors from the Purple Raiders. Mount would ultimately pull away, however, finishing the job to earn the conference regular-season crown.
Â
Freshman Morgan Lowenkamp led the Otterbein offense with eight kills and a .263 hitting mark, while senior Kendel Kellogg finished with 18 digs and seven kills.
Â
Otterbein closes out the regular season Saturday afternoon with a non-conference match, playing No. 11-ranked Juniata at noon in Mount's gymnasium.
