WESTERVILLE, Ohio—The Otterbein University football team concluded its season at 5-5, losing, 34-13, to Ohio Northern University on a sunny, but cold Saturday afternoon in Westerville. It was Senior Day.

The Polar Bears led from beginning to end on their way to sole possession of fourth place in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC). Northern finished the season 7-3 overall and 6-3 in the OAC. The Cardinals finished fifth in the conference at 5-4.

The game was relatively close through the first three quarters. Ohio Northern led by just seven, 20-13, early in the fourth quarter.

The Polar Bears scored first, on their second series of the game, a Justin Magazine 5-yard run. The drive covered 80 yards and took 7:25 off the clock.

On the ensuing Ohio Northern kickoff, Otterbein's Tyler Hammond returned the ball 69 yards to the Ohio Northern 15-yard line. The Cardinals, however, had to settle for a 30-yard field goal from Quenton Miller to make it a 7-3 game with 14:53 to play in the second quarter.

Northern closed out the first half with a pair of Andrew DeMario field goals of 32 and 36 yards to lead 13-3 at intermission.

Otterbein, again, had to settle for a field goal in its opening drive of the second half. The Cardinals moved the ball 50 yards in seven plays—including a 32-yard pass from quarterback Brick Davis to wide receiver Travis Laird—to the Ohio Northern 20-yard line where the drive stalled. Miller hit his second field goal of the game, a 37-yarder, to pull the Cardinals within seven, trailing the Polar Bears, 13-6, with 11:11 remaining in the third quarter.

Ohio Northern struck right back in its next series. Quarterback Patrick Angle hit tight end Shaile Chamberlain for a 24-yard touchdown to stretch the lead to 20-6.

The Cardinals finally broke through for a touchdown early in the fourth quarter. Davis found a wide open Cole Benner for a 24-yard touchdown pass to pull back within seven, trailing Ohio Northern, 20-13, with 14:54 to play in the game.

From that point on, Otterbein's offense just went cold. The Cardinals turned the ball over on four straight possessions, two on downs, and two by interceptions.

Ohio Northern scored the game's last 14 points, a 62-yard reception by wide receiver Reed Allen, and a 13-yard run from tailback Raymond Brown.

Otterbein generated 217 yards of total offense while yielding 387 yards. The Cardinals netted just 62 yards on the ground. Running back Drew Ervin led Otterbein with 45 yards on 11 carries.

Davis completed 13 of 31 pass attempts for 158 yards. He threw two interceptions and was sacked twice.

Eight different players caught at least one ball in the game. Laird had four catches for 39 yards.

Defensive end Kyle Blust led Otterbein with 13 tackles. Outside linebacker Zac Hamilton, who came into the game leading the OAC in sacks, picked up two more today to bring his season total to 9.5.
