Cardinals Suffer Non-Conference Loss at Wittenberg

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – Otterbein University women's hoops dropped a non-conference outing Tuesday evening on the road, suffering an 85-36 loss at the hands of Wittenberg University in Pam Evans Smith Arena.

The Cardinals (1-2) held an early 15-14 lead after a three-pointer from senior Mary Corbett four minutes in, but the Tigers settled in and embarked on a one-sided 20-0 run spanning the next seven minutes.

Wittenberg took a 40-21 margin into the locker rooms for halftime, and quickly blew the game open early in the second half before running away with the victory.

Senior Mary Corbett finished with a team-high eight points for Otterbein, which 14 of 56 (.250) from the field compared to Witteberg's 52 percent clip (36 of 39). The Tigers held a 39-19 edge in bench scoring and out-rebounded the Cardinals 52-33.

Darbie Zirkle turned in a game-high 18 points for Wittenberg while teammate Haley Dannemiller had 12.

Otterbein will be back in action this weekend, staying on the road to compete in the Thomas More Classic in Crestview Hills, Ky. The Cards will play La Roche on Friday at 5 p.m. before a Saturday afternoon matchup against Shawnee State.
