Women's Basketball Drops High-Scoring Contest at Capital

Box Score
BEXLEY, Ohio – The Cardinal women's basketball team dropped its second meeting this season with crosstown-rival Capital University Saturday afternoon, falling 82-72 in a high-scoring road affair in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) action.

The Cardinals, playing in the second game of a men's and women's doubleheader, drop to 7-16 this season and 3-13 within the league.

Otterbein trailed just 14-10 after junior Mary Corbett buried a jump shot at the 15:32 mark, but Capital (15-7, 12-4 OAC) bounced back with seven-straight points to open a 21-10 advantage.

Cheyenne Hartley-Carr
The Cards found a spark off the bench in freshman Cheyenne Hartley-Carr, who scored ten-straight points as Otterbein ultimately got back within a possession, at 34-32, with 3:06 to go before the half. The Purple and White would close the period strong, however, eventually taking a 43-36 edge into halftime.

Capital seized its winning opportunity early in the second half, quickly bumping the lead to double digits and ultimately finding themselves up 16 with 14:07 remaining.

Otterbein got the deficit back down to 11 after consecutive layups from juniors Madi Miller and Tabatha Piper, but would unfortunately get no closer than nine the rest of the way.

Hartley-Carr and sophomore Amariah Huck each scored 15 points to lead the Otterbein, which also received 13 points and 10 rebounds from Piper. Corbett marked the fourth Cardinal in double figures by finishing with 10.

Jamie Caton led five Crusaders in double digits with a game-high 18 while Cookie Geroski and Simmone Gage chipped in 17 and 16, respectively.

The Cardinals shot 46 percent from the floor throughout, but made 11 of 17 free throws compared to Capital's 22 of 30 output. The Crusaders finished with a 23-13 advantage in second chance points.

The Tan and Cardinal will play their final home game to begin next week, hosting John Carroll University Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
