Box Score 2 WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Cardinal volleyball team dropped a pair of road matches Saturday afternoon, falling in straight sets at Muskingum University and then suffering a five-set loss to nearby Ohio Wesleyan University.
Otterbein, now 10-14 on the year and 1-4 within the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC), will be back in action Tuesday evening with a 7 p.m. home game against Wilmington College.
Muskingum turned back the Cardinals by scores of 26-24, 25-21, 29-27 to begin the day, improving themselves to 17-7 overall and 3-2 against the OAC.
The Cardinals couldn't seem against the Muskies, leading 24-22 in the first set before the hosts rallied with four straight points. Otterbein led again in the second, only to see Muskingum prevail with a 25-21 victory. The Muskies escaped with a third-set victory to end the match, overcoming another 24-22 hole to ultimately emerge on top.
Sophomore
Morgan Lowenkamp had a team-high 13 kills in the losing effort while
Maddy Shelley chipped in 10. Libero
Gracie Staten tallied 26 digs, the second-highest output of her season.
Taylor Mathews handed out a match-best 39 assists for Muskingum, which got 15 kills from Taylour Fatheree and another 11 from Ashley Reynolds.
Otterbein turned in a competitive performance against 25th-ranked Ohio Wesleyan (22-2) in the evening, leading the match 2-1 but eventually falling 25-19, 15-25, 25-23, 17-25, 10-15.
Ashton Riffle had a career-high 13 kills throughout with Lowenkamp contributing 10. Setter
Lauren Blumberg dished out 23 helpers and Staten came up with 21 digs.
Brianna La Croix had a match-best 22 on the opposite side for the Battling Bishops.
