Box Score ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Cardinal football team took a road loss in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play Saturday afternoon, falling 55-0 at top-ranked University of Mount Union.
Otterbein, now 4-4 overall and 4-3 within the conference, will return home to host 17th-ranked John Carroll University next Saturday at Memorial Stadium for Senior Day. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
The Cardinal defense had a nice hold to begin the day, stopping Mount Union just short on a 4th and 6 as the Purple Raiders were driving.
Otterbein, playing without four more starters in the game including quarterback
Kevan Green due to injury, was forced to punt on its first offensive possession and then Mount Union (8-0, 7-0 OAC) would score on seven-straight trips to ultimately take a 50-0 lead into halftime.
Sophomore quarterback
Lukas Ousley helped the Cardinals finally achieve a first down near the end of the third quarter, crossing midfield but unfortunately stalling at the 35-yard line after moving the chains a few times.
Otterbein kept the Purple Raiders out of the end zone throughout the entire second half, enduring a safety and then forcing a field-goal attempt.
Linebacker
Drew Ervin, the OAC's leading tackler, continued his consistent season with a game-high 10 stops (four solo, six assisted).
Steven Carpenter and
Kyle Blust each tallied nine tackles, with Blust registering 1.5 for loss and a half-sack.
Mount Union, now with 101 regular-season wins in a row, outgained Otterbein 602-44 on the day and had 36:08 time of possession. Cardinal wideout
Julian Lowe caught three balls for 14 yards while Ousley finished with 17 rushing yards on five carries.
