Box Score Photo GalleryBEREA, Ohio – The Otterbein University women's basketball team dropped its second Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) game of the season on Saturday, falling 75-67 to Baldwin Wallace at Ursprung Gymnasium.
Otterbein (4-3 overall, 0-2 OAC) returns home from a six-game road trip to host Mount Union next Saturday at 3 p.m. inside the Rike Center.
Baldwin Wallace opened the game with a 13-10 lead before a deep two-pointer by freshman guard
Dani Kissel pulled the Cards to within one point at the end of the first period. Kissel connected on the first shot of the second quarter to give Otterbein its first lead since the 5:22 mark of the opening period, sparking an 11-0 scoring run.
Junior forward
Taylor Pifher made a jump shot with 5:02 left before halftime, giving the Cardinals their first double-digit lead of the afternoon at 23-13. Otterbein managed to maintain its lead over BW for the remainder of the half, increasing it to as many as 12 points. BW converted its final two shots of the first half to make the score 30-23 at the break. The Yellow Jackets posted a 40 percent mark from the field through the first 20 minutes, while the Cards totaled a 35.3 percent mark.
The Cardinals began the second half with a pair of baskets on a layup from Kissel and jump shot by junior guard
Marissa Sheets, boosting the Otterbein lead to nine points at the 8:43 mark. BW battled back to cut its deficit to a one-possession game at 38-36 with 5:24 remaining, before ending the period on an 8-3 scoring run to trail 49-48.
Otterbein increased its lead back to a six-point game with 7:58 remaining in regulation, as sophomore guard
Abby Miduri converted a step-back three-pointer, prompting a Yellow Jacket timeout. BW again rallied to tie the game at 56 with 5:30 left to play, before increasing its lead to eight points at 64-56 with just under three minutes remaining.
Miduri again got the Cards going offensively, sinking a three-pointer from the right wing with 2:48 remaining, brining Otterbein to within five points of BW. The next possession for BW featured a corner three-pointer by Hannah Fecht, one of her three on the afternoon, to increase the Yellow Jacket lead to seven points.
The Yellow Jackets took their lead to nine points on the next possession, before Kissel connected on her third three-pointer with just over a minute left to play to pull Otterbein to within two possessions at 69-63. BW ended the game on a 6-4 scoring run to improve to 2-0 in conference play.
Kissel led all scorers with 17 points on 6-of-13 shooting, including a 3-of-4 mark from behind the arc. Huck followed with 13 points on 5-of-13 shooting, corralling five rebounds in the process. Miduri added 12 points on a 4-of-6 mark from three-point range, while freshman guard
Ali Cartnal chipped in seven points. BW posted a 53.7 percent shooting mark to Otterbein's even 40 percent.
