Box Score BEREA, Ohio – The upset-minded Otterbein women's basketball squad suffered an unfortunate loss Saturday on the road, relinquishing a 15-point second-half lead as host Baldwin Wallace fought back to win, 70-68.
The Cardinals came out on a mission early on, opening an 11-point lead less than eight minutes into the game. BW clawed back to within six points before Otterbein pushed the margin back to double digits, 44-34, entering halftime.
Otterbein (5-16, 2-12 OAC) widened its cushion to 15 just over 90 seconds into the second half, but the Yellow Jackets began their climb back with a 17-2 run, tying the contest at 51-51 by the midway point of the period.
The Cards weathered the storm and later held a seven-point margin, 66-59, with 6:21 remaining in the game. Baldwin Wallace (17-4, 12-2 OAC) would rally again, eventually tying the matchup at 68-68 before a jumper from Clara Lemmon with 11 seconds left proved to be the game-winning bucket.
Amariah Huck paced Otterbein with 19 points while Madi Miller finished with a new season-high of 16, going 6 of 9 from the field and grabbing five boards. Taylor Pifher hauled in a team-best six rebounds while point guard Chelsea Reed handed out a game-high nine assists.
Lemmon led all players on the BW side with game-bests of 25 points and 11 rebounds. Otterbein shot 50 percent from the field but gave up 20 offensive rebounds to the Yellow Jackets, allowing them to attempt 18 more shots throughout. BW subsequently held a 22-2 edge in second-chance points.
Otterbein will have four-straight home games to finish the season, beginning with an upcoming Wednesday-night affair with Wilmington in the Rike Center. Start time is slated for 7:30 p.m.
Wilmington took the first matchup between the schools earlier this season at home, winning 71-59 despite the Cards getting a game-high 20 points from Huck.
