Box Score 4 WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein University volleyball team won three of four outings over the weekend at its annual tournament, moving to 3-2 on the young season.
The Cardinals opened day one with a straight-set victory over Berea College (Ky.), emerging by scores of 25-14, 25-23, 25-17. Hitters

Sam Hurdzan and
Marie Thornton all tallied eight kills to lead the offensive charge, with Hurdzan committing no errors en route to a solid .615 percentage for the match. Berea hit -0.65 for the match as a group.
Otterbein fell in four sets during an extremely tight match with Case Western Reserve to end Friday night, winning the opening frame, 25-19, before suffering losses of 22-25, 22-25, 24-26. The Cards had erased a 23-18 deficit with five-straight points, but committed a service error with the matchup later tied at 24-24 and the Spartans ultimately hung prevailed.
Thornton, Shelley and
Morgan Lowenkamp all reached double-digit kills in the match for an Otterbein team that had 57 all together, compared to just 30 for Case. However, the Cardinals committed 16 service errors throughout that allowed the Spartans to overcome an .087 hitting mark.
Otterbein finished the weekend strong on Saturday, beginning with a 25-22, 25-20, 25-13 triumph over Kenyon in the morning. Lowenkamp hit .600 with 10 kills, and just one error, on 15 attempts while freshman setter
Andrea Miller handed out 34 assists, the best of her young season. Shelley, Miller and libero
Gracie Staten all amassed double-digit digs as well.
The Tan and Cardinal culminated the event by downing cross-town Capital University in straight sets, emerging by counts of 25-10, 25-16, 25-14. The Cards hit an impressive .310 as a unit for the match, getting eight kills from both Lowenkamp and senior
Kasey White. Lowenkamp was later named to the All-Tournament Team.
Otterbein will have the middle of the week off before heading to play in the Catholic University Tournament in Washington, D.C. next weekend.
