Box Score NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The Otterbein University women's basketball team posted a come from behind, 66-57, overtime win at Muskingum on Saturday.
Otterbein (9-10 overall) improves to 4-8 in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play and will return for a two-game homestand, beginning with John Carroll next Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
The Cardinals got down 10-5 to begin the game, scoring just one field goal through the first 3:30 of play on a layup by senior forward
Amariah Huck. Muskingum boosted its lead to as many as 14 points, ending the first quarter on a 10-0 scoring run for a 21-7 advantage.
Otterbein twice cut the Muskie lead to 10 points, the last time coming on a pair of made free throws by freshman guard
Dani Kissel with 5:31 left until halftime. The Muskies closed out the opening half on a 9-4 scoring run, taking a 37-22 at the break. Junior guard
Feaira Crews led the Cards at the half with seven points on 3-of-6 shooting. Huck posted six points and three rebounds.
Muskingum maintained its double-digit lead through the first seven minutes of the third period, before Kissel connected on a jumper to narrow the Cardinal deficit to nine points at 44-35. Otterbein continued to chip away at the Muskie lead to begin the four period, as a 9-0 scoring run pulled the Cards to within one point of their opponent with 6:10 left in regulation.
A pair of made free throws by Huck with 4:06 to play in the fourth quarter gave Otterbein its first lead of the afternoon at 50-48. Muskie sophomore guard Alexandra Carson was fouled on the ensuing possession, converting two free throws to tie the game at 50 points apiece with 3:14 left on the clock.
The Cardinals twice took a two-point lead over the final three minutes of play, the last coming on a pair of made free throws from Huck with 56 seconds left in regulation. Junior forward Jasmine Goings then tied the game with 25 seconds remaining, tying the score at 54 points apiece. A missed layup by the Muskies with six seconds left sent the game into overtime.
Otterbein took control of the momentum in overtime, manufacturing a 6-0 scoring run to begin the extra five minutes. Muskingum struggled to overcome its deficit over the remaining 1:45 of play, coming only to within three points of the Cards.
Huck led the Cardinals with her fifth double-double of the season, scoring a team-high 18 points to accompany 12 rebounds. She is now just four points shy of the 1,000-point plateau and currently sits 17th all-time among the career scoring leaders in program history.
Kissel and freshman guard
Ali Cartnal scored 15 points apiece, while also combining for eight rebounds and a 15-of-16 mark from the foul line. The Cards shot an impressive 28-of-30 from the charity stripe, helping bolster a 28.3 percent performance from the field.
